Policy Research Dialogue Roundtables

(PRDR)

Background

In the past years EU research and innovation projects delivered extensive results. But currently no possibilities exist to thouroughly assess and compare if the outcomes actually provide valid contributions for the capability development of practitioner organizations that they target.

Furthermore, a thorough understanding is lacking to what extent the outcomes actually address the defined policy demands. Given this problem and in order to further strenghten the Policy-Research Dialogue on research and demonstration activities in the field of Disaster Risk Reduction and Crisis Management, the DRIVER+ project will organise three Policy-Research Dialogue Roundtables (PRDR).

Objectives

These events will especially aim at fostering dialogue on how a pan-European approach to capability development and innovation management in the field of Disaster Risk Reduction and Crisis Management can be supported through a common trial and validation framework that ensures comparability and improves the uptake of results stemming from EU- funded Research projects.

In this attempt, these events will bring together EC DGs (in particular DG HOME, DG ECHO/ERCC, DG RTD and DG CLIMA), the JRC/DRMKC, international organisations (UNISDR), national civil protection authorities from the Member States and selected Research & Innovation projects and/or initatives.

PLANNING

The first PRDR was organised back-to-back with DG HOME’s CoU Governance meetings.

On the one hand, the targeted participants for the PRDRs are clearly a subset of the CoU Governance meeting, so DRIVER+ will benefit from the co-organisation by having the persons attending the PRDRs needed to have around for the discussions. On the other hand, by taking part in the CoU Governance Meetings, DRIVER+ is aiming at a better positioning of the CMINE as a network to further develop and maintain the trial and validation framework within the future CoU (thematic) structure, which will facilitate the establishment and expansion of the network.

The following schedule is foreseen for the organisation of the PRDRs:

1st CoU Governance (1/2 day) and DRIVER+ PRDR (1/2 day)
28th of February 2019 Brussels, BAO

2nd DRIVER+ PRDR
18 December 2019, Brussels, BAO

3rd DRIVER+ PRDR (1/2 day)
18-20th February 2020 back to back with the DRIVER+ Final Conference, Brussels, Bluepoint
