TIEMS is a global forum for education, training and certification in emergency and disaster management comprising users, planners, researchers, industry, managers and practitioners. Within its network, TIEMS stimulates the exchange of information on the use of innovative methods and technologies to improve society’s ability to avoid, mitigate, respond to and recover from natural and technological disasters.
The TIEMS Education, Training, and Certification Task Force, called TIEMS Academy, has, among others, the goal of offering certification. TIEMS believes there is a need for an internationally shared understanding of emergency management elements, qualifications, and terminology and is launching TIEMS QIEDM Certification of Qualifications in International Emergency and Disaster Management (TQC), as a global concept to establish such a shared understanding. According to TIEMS, it is important to raise the awareness of the competencies needed in emergency and disaster management and to support those participating in these activities and operations in acquiring these competencies.
TIEMS is asking for input to the certification scheme. To this end, they have established a survey where they are seeking opinion and advise on the framework of content of such a certification. This survey aims to collect information from emergency and disaster management experts worldwide, in order to seek guidance on the focus of this certification and how to develop the TQC curriculum and make it available internationally.
